The Nation's Oldest City
St. Augustine is a city located within St. Johns County, and is a beautiful place to call home! It’s known as “The Nation’s Oldest City” because of it’s heritage dating back to 1565, not because of age demographics! This is also the origin of “First Coast” references you will see in Northeast Florida. You can find out more about the local attractions by checking out the visitstaugustine website. Don’t forget about our awesome weather here too… while it does get warm, you can enjoy beautiful sunrises and sunsets year round and the winters provide a slight change in cooler temperatures compared with southern Florida. Housing in the city itself is limited to mostly historic type structures, and newer homes built in older established neighborhoods. There’s quite an assortment and is perfect for people seeking unique and different architecture opportunities. Along the bayfront are located some of the area’s most valuable addresses, and are walking distance to all of the historic sites downtown. While downtown St. Augustine is relatively small, venturing out into the county at large will provide you with many different types of housing opportunities and where the newest developments are located.
Things To Do In St. Augustine
There's Something for All Ages
There are numerous museums in St. Augustine, ranging from The Lightner Museum (19th century fine art and more) to Ripley’s Believe It Or Not! and everything in between. Many school groups visit St. Augustine for field trips to absorb the historic nature of the city. In fact we often hear that many of our newer residents first discovered this area themselves on a school field trip! If you’re hungry for something besides history, St. Augustine will not disappoint either! There are A LOT of great places to dine that range from casual grab and go to fine dining, and something for every budget. A few of our favorites are Michael’s Tasting Room, MOJO BBQ Old City, Cellar 6, and Cap’s On The Water.
Housing Options in St. Augustine
An Incredible Lifestyle Awaits!
As with most communities, the closer you are to certain amenities (the beach, for example) the more valuable the real estate will be. One of the greatest things about living in St. Augustine is regardless of “where” you choose to make your home, you’re still relatively close to all of the most popular attractions. Therefore, you can adjust your housing preference in proportion to your budget and still get what you want! Also, you can tailor your choice of housing to suit your lifestyle. If your weekend activities will include time on the water, playing tennis, or golfing you may be more inclined to opt for something where lawn maintenance is included (such as a condominium). Keep in mind too that there are many reliable service providers that can handle your lawn work on a conventional home if needed. Many customers are also concerned with whether they should buy a new or existing home. That answer depends on many factors, and there are valid arguments for each. If you desire the cultural aspect of being in the older more established neighborhoods of St. Augustine, then there will be very limited choices for newly built homes. But don’t worry, our homes (like our residents) tend to age well and buying an existing home is nothing to be frightened of. If a new home is on your radar, there are many newer communities to choose from in a variety of price points. We can take the mystery out of the home buying process, and look forward to helping you!
